As well as appearing at events for ELT teachers the Henry Brothers also visit schools to entertain children, wearing the costumes of the characters in Cambridge University Press ELT course books for primary school learners.
Our costumes are:
Monty and Maskman from Kid’s Box by Caroline Nixon and Michael Tomlinson.
The children know the characters from their books and from watching them on the interactive DVD. So they go crazy when the “real life” Maskman and Monty walk into their classroom.
Max, the central character in the Playway to English series for young children by Herbert Puchta and Gunter Gerngross.
Playway is based on the SMILE approach* and the smiles turn to laughter when Max visits the school.
Hippo from the pre-school course Hippo and Friends by Claire Selby.
Here’s Hippo posing with Paul, John, and Maria Gücel at the Istanbul Kultur ELT Conference in 2006….
And here’s Paul as King Cat, doing some of the fun activities from Primary Colours by Andrew LittleJohn and Diana Hicks….
Finally, however, if you’re in London this week, perhaps taking a group of students to summer school, you’ll have the opportunity to see some different but very finely crafted animal heads as the Circle of Animals by Chinese artist Ai Weiwei is on show in the courtyard of Somerset House until June 30th.
Note: The SMILE approach of Playway to English stands for:
– Skill-oriented learning
– Multi-sensory learner motivation
– Intelligence-building activities
– Long-term memory storage of the language through music, movement, rhythm and rhyme
– Exciting sketches, stories and games
